WELCOME TO #284 OUTWEST HOUR!
Phoebe White, "America's Yodeling Cowgirl," opens today's show with her original "Ride Along With Me" from her brand new album "Cowgirl's Delight." Riders In The Sky and Suzy Bogguss joined Phoebe on this fun song...and it inspires today's playlist "Ride Along With Me." I've had the pleasure of meeting Phoebe twice, I think she was twelve when we first met, she had just released her first album "UnXpected." Now at fourteen, she's writing a lot of her own material and performing from coast-to-coast...including on stage at the Grand Ole Opry backed by her good friends, Riders In The Sky! Phoebe, if you are listening (or reading) Congratulations on the release of your new album "Cowgirl's Delight"
The First Set features two new singles. Kicking off the set is "A New Someday" written by Tecia McKenna and James Hedden. Tecia entered this song into the 2023 IWMA Songwriting contest and WON! Her fellow Gone With The West bandmates asked if they could record it and...they did! You hear all four performers including Tecia McKenna and Mary Kaye Holt, with Merna Lewis and Micki Fuhrman puttling a little fancy touch on some solos and frills. Special guest Ranger Doug Green played some swingy rhythm guitar and Grace Adele, (of The Farmer and Adele), worked with Tecia on learnin' some swingin' bar chords.

Following is a new single from Western Swing performer Kelly Spinks - we enjoy "She's Got Me Dancin."
Set Two features a poem and a song about a cowgirl and her love for horses. Poet Miska Paget opens the set with her original poem "Bandana" from her new album "Real Hands & Treasured Friends."
I received five singles from Nashville based singer/songwriter Shantell Ogden. She's a "real deal" cowgirl, the songwriter and voice behind nine albums, and her music has been featured in television shows, news programs, and more than a dozen feature films. To introduce Shantell I selected "She Loves Horses."
Set Three features two songs about a similar subject ...have you ever wondered about a past love, the "what ifs" and "should haves" and where he or she is now? Award-winning singer/songwriters Allan Chapman and Jim Jones released a single of an audience favorite they wrote together... and now perform as a duet. "Smoke of the Brandin' Fire" tells the story of a working cowboy composing a letter he's considering mailing. (Have you ever done that? Did you mail it?) Allan's and Jim's voices bring to life the cowboy's smokin' memory of a love long gone.

Lori Beth Brooke follows with her original "I Never Even Crossed Your Mind" a twist on the phrase "You never even crossed my mind." It's a straight-up, traditional-style Country song about cheating! Lori Beth suggests "you get up and dance already!" It's from her new album "Light Of The Moon."
Set Four features the life of the working cowboy. From singer/songwriter Ed Meyer's new album "They Ride" we hear his original "A Mother's Love."
Songwriter Marina Pendleton worked at a dude ranch in Colorado one summer, and she and this "Colorado Cowboy" became dear friends. She wrote this song to honor him and his incredible work ethic and to tell his story. Merna Lewis, of the band Gone With The West, heard the song and asked if they could record it. And they did. This is the second new single released from Gone With The West.

Set Five is inspired by the saying "If you live by the gun, you will die by the gun." We hear a song and a poem about the life of the highwayman and gunfighter in this set. The road agents of the early 1860's in Montana were ruthless highwaymen. The popular history is that the gold miners formed a vigillance committee and either hung or ran the bad guys out of the country during the winter of 1863/64. John Lowell's song "The Road Agent's Lament" tells this story. It's from his album "Snow On The Wineglass."
Poet KC LaCourse follows with her original poem, "The Final Call," about a gunfighter's last gunfight. It's from KC's much anticipated new album "The Last Sunset."
Set Six. The West that was and remains is covered in this set. "When The Grass Was Deep" written by Dale Burson and Dan Shipley, is a new single performed by Joel Alden White.
A brand new album, "Singing To Cows," is all original music written and performed by Chris Guenther. We hear "Union Stockyard Blues" a look at today's West.
Set Seven. Do you reminisce about your past experiences - those defining moments that shaped you into the person you are today? If so, you'll enjoy these two songs. "The Ranch Family" written and performed by Dennis and Beverly Gray-Russell is from their new album "Trackin' On."
Luanne Hunt performs her original new single, "Ghosts Of A Simpler Time."
It's A Wrap!
