Meet Don Edwards

From our Purveyor of Music:
This is one of my favorite Don Edwards CDs. Although recorded over 20 years ago, it still sounds fresh to me. To hear Rex Allen's voice paired with Don's is magic. Here are two men, still passionate about the big wide West, and they raise their voices in praise of it. Classics by Robert Nolan, Cindy Walker, and even one by Smiley Burnette! Who wouldn't want to ride the range with these two cowboys?

From the CD Notes:
The Mighty Fort Worth Stockyards!
A wild 'n wooly place called 'Cowtown,' with it's cowboys, gangsters, pens, packing houses, and rodeos, had its peak years between 1903 and 1947. After a devastating flood in May 1949, a decline set in that would not reverse until the mid-1970s, with it's designation as a national historic district.
Today there is plenty of pride in this Texas city "Where the West Begins," and once again, the Stockyards district is thriving and bustling, albeit a bit more civilized. As the historic Cowtown Coliseum, site of the world's first indoor rodeo, reaches it's centennial year in 2008, it seems appropriate to reflect on some of the lives and careers that were formed from the dust of this storied arena...
A Word About Cowtown Opry:
Founded in 1992 by western swing pianist, Jean Marlowe, Cowtown Opry's goal is to promote and perform Texas heritage music, specifically that stemming from the cattle ranching culture. A 501c3 non-profit organization, CTO has mentored adults and children in western music performance and repertoire by presenting regular Sunday afternoon shows in the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. As talen coordinator since 1996, I find that western music performers are some of the finest people I have ever met, and it is a joy to share with them the music and history of the West!

From our Purveyor of Music:
Ray Doyle was a long-standing member of another of our favorite groups, Wylie and the Wild West. Now - on his own. This CD features Ray and his guitar...and his rich stories set to music. When he was a mere lad, his family emigrated from Ireland to Southern Ontario, Canada and later to California. His music is inspired by his personal experiences, and both the true stories and myths of the West. We hope you will enjoy his CD as much as we do.

From our Purveyor of Music:
Troy is a friend of OutWest having performed here, been a guest on the radio show, Around the Barn, that OutWest's Bobbi Jean co-hosts, and appeared at several of our author events. At long last, his original music and poetry is available airplay 24/7! Here's what Country Music DJ, Dixie McCorkell, has to say about this CD:
Just listened to your album! Fabulous poetry and great songs. I'd love to play some of the songs on my syndicated show "Country Legends In The Making" that reaches 400 am/fm stations around the world. Take a look at my radio site and even listen to the recorded version of the show there if you like.

With this CD, Trails & Rails has the good fortune of bringing eight new songs to western music fans. Six of them with lyrics and music by the amazing bass-playing Bruce Huntington!
The instrumental talents of Walt on banjo, guitar, and mandolin, and of Ken Wilcox on guitar and autoharp are featured throughout. Paula provides rhythm guitar. And everyone in the group sings leads and harmonies. Ken Graydon and Phee Sherline encouraged us to attend our first western music festival some years ago. (Took two years to get us there - but then the fun began!) Special thanks to Ken for joining us here to sing his own wonderful song, Windmill. We so appreciate the support and further encouragement from western musicians and fans everywhere. And the friendships are beyond compare. Thanks to all of you for bringing us into the circle of this best-of-all music. |
